In 2012, the Hermitage Golf Course owner, Mike Eller, was playing Whistling Straits on his annual golfing trip with his friends. As he was coming down the #13 fairway, he heard the distant ringing of a cowbell. He looked around him and saw a herd of sheep coming from behind. He was awestruck, and in that moment, he decided Scottish Blackface sheep could also call Hermitage Golf Course “home”. What started with 12 ewes and 1 ram has now grown to more than 45. These friendly sheep roam the course year-round, and if you’re lucky enough, you may find yourself right beside the herd.
